GB Short Track Speed Skating are embarking on an exciting and revolutionary project that has the potential take Great Britain's athletes and the sport of Short Track itself to the next level.

GB Short Track Speed Skating are the World Class programme and the next generation athletes on the Academy programme. In 2017, Great Britain became the first European team to have a female World Champion, Elise Christie, winning three titles, unprecedented for a female European skater. This year, qualifications will take place for the Olympic Games in PyeongChang 2018.

By commencing crucial research undertaken by a PhD placement at the end of 2017, new technology could be in place ahead of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing 2022.

The project:

The project aims will be to fully understand the interaction between Short Track blades and the ice.

This will have impact in several areas - it will allow the coaches, physiotherapists and strength coach to have a full understanding of what happens on the ice and therefore tailor training and treatments appropriately.

It will also allow for the development of new ideas for boot and blade design that account for the loading conditions involved, to produce a more consistent setup and allow our skaters to go faster.

This would give the Great British team the insight and knowledge to have a revolutionary impact on the programme.

The investment:

GB Short Track are seeking interested investors to fund a Nottingham University four year PhD placement. The investment equates to £12,500 per year for four years. The funding will match that of the University itself.

In addition to this unique opportunity to support crucial research, there will be branding opportunities and recognition for you/your company as a supporter of GB Short Track Speed Skating as well as access to the team and staff for appearances such as motivational speaking and media opportunities.

This exciting opportunity will help GB Short Track Speed Skating achieve its aim from taking the team from 'Good to Great' whilst incorporating the team's values of; Teamwork, Excellence, Respect, Trust, Communication and Bravery.

Be part of the journey.
